Vanessa Alonzo made her Houston Grand Opera debut in the concert premiere of “To Cross the Face of the Moon” at the Wortham Theater Center in November 2010. She began her training with the late Alfonso Guerra at Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts (MECA). Ms. Alonzo has been a featured performer with mariachi ensembles throughout Texas since 1998. In 1999, Vanessa was named the “Best of Show Vocalist” in Ford-Lincoln Mercury’s Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza Vocal Competition. Her notable credits include tours to Ireland, Mexico, Norway and Vietnam. In 2002, Vanessa performed for the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. Vanessa is also a former student of Houston Grand Opera Studio Alumnus, Gabriel Gonzalez.
In 2013, Ms. Alonzo was on a U.S. tour with “To Cross the Face of the Moon” as well as sharing the stage with Los Guerreros de la Musica.
